Transportation Safety

Working together to create a safe transportation system

Ready for Winter Driving?

Oregon's beautiful scenery is a year-round source of enjoyment. Driving in Oregon's winters, however, can be challenging. Follow the recommendations in the Oregon Winter Driving Guide so you arrive safely at your destination! You can also download the complete Winter Travel News packet (PDF 3MB) including additional information about headlights, black ice, safe winter bicycle commuting, and more. Drive Safely. The Way to Go.

Give plows and sanders more room. Your car will thank you. Be winter ready. Know before you go.

Lives Saved in 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released a fact sheet that presents estimates of lives saved in 2015 by restraint use, motorcycle helmets, and as a result of minimum-drinking-age laws. Buckle up every time!

Automation and Crash Avoidance

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released the latest issue of its Status Report magazine, a newsletter covering research and topics in the highway safety field. This edition focuses on autonomous vehicles.

Safety Action Plan

The Oregon Transportation Safety Action Plan (PDF 5MB) was recently adopted. It provides long-term goals, policies, and strategies and near-term actions to eliminate deaths and life-changing injuries on Oregon’s transportation system.

Drive Sober This Holiday Season

During the holiday season, many adults celebrate and enjoy themselves with a couple of drinks, but even one too many drinks increases your chances of crashing while driving a motor vehicle. That is why ODOT wants everyone to put safety before the party this holiday season by assigning a sober designated driver to get them home. Sacrificing your life and the life of others by driving a vehicle or riding a motorcycle after a few drinks can result in tragedy for you and your loved ones.

December 1 is the start of our annual 3D Month – Drunk and Drugged Driving Awareness month. Anything you can do to help eliminate impaired driving, from hosting no-alcohol gatherings to arranging sober rides, could save a life this holiday season. Drive Sober. Save Lives.

Don't wreck the holidays. Buzzed driving is drunk driving.
