Recruiting Members for the Environmental Health Registration Board
Oregon Department of Human Services sent this bulletin at 07/24/2023 11:44 AM PDTThe Environmental Health Registration Board (Board), overseen by the Health Licensing Office (Office), is recruiting for the following vacant Board member positions:
- One (1) public member
- One (1) representative of the food or food and alcoholic beverage retail industry
The Board is made up of seven positions, which include four environmental health or waste water specialists with at least four years of experience in environmental sanitation, one licensed physician with an emphasis in public health, one representative of the food or food and alcoholic beverage retail industry, and one member of the general public. All members must be residents of the state of Oregon.
The Board licenses both environmental health and waste water specialists and oversees how they relate to consumer protection. Respectively, both professions are responsible for the control of infectious disease through environmental hygiene by enforcing health and safety standards related to food, water, soil, septic systems, and other consumer products.
Service on the Board allows members to contribute their education, knowledge, and experience when considering decisions and recommendations related to the policy, administrative rules, consumer safety, and disciplinary matters of the environmental health and waste water specialist professions.
The public member and food/alcohol industry representative voices are necessary to:
- Provide the consumer perspective on strategic decisions,
- Give feedback on the way current services are experienced by consumers, and
- Raise new issues of concern to consumers.
The environmental health specialist, waste water specialist, and physician voice are necessary to:
- Provide input on industry standards,
- Offer technical expertise, and
- Provide a practitioner perspective on how policy changes affect the profession.
The Board meets approximately three times a year, and members can attend by teleconference or Microsoft Teams. Members are appointed to four-year terms and may be entitled to compensation for attending meetings.
