We are writing to provide you with reminders of resources available as you follow emergency plans for inclement weather and related emergencies.
Background:
Many parts of Oregon are experiencing winter weather conditions including snow, ice and unsafe driving conditions. Areas affected can change. They include, but are not limited to:
- Portland (especially the West Hills area)
- Cascade foothills
- Salem
- Coastal Range
- Much of the Willamette Valley
Many ODHS and Area Agency on Aging offices are closed today, and more may close as weather conditions change. Please call your local office before visiting to see if it is open. Reported closures as of 12 p.m. include:
- State of Oregon offices, including ODHS offices, in the Portland metro area
- ODHS offices in Columbia, Lincoln and Tillamook counties
- Lane Council of Governments Senior and Disability Services offices in Florence and Oakridge, including the meal site in Oakridge
- ODHS offices in Coos and Curry counties
- Northwest Senior and Disability Services office in Tillamook
- Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments Senior and Disability Services office in Toledo
What you should do:
Follow the emergency plan ̶ The Oregon Department of Human Services wants to make sure that the Oregonians we serve, as well as their paid care providers, are prepared. Providers should make sure the individual for whom they work is safe and comfortable. If the person is not safe and comfortable, you should assist them in getting to a safe place according to their emergency plans.
