Designing the future of OHP – Oregon’s next 1115 Medicaid Waiver
Please join the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) for a series of workshops focusing on Oregon’s upcoming Medicaid waiver application to continue to transform the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) in coming years. Every five years, Oregon applies for a waiver of some federal Medicaid rules that allows us to expand who is covered by OHP, pay for health care differently and implement other reforms.
The workshops will be divided into a three-part series in which participants will learn about the waiver process, our state’s goals for this waiver and give input and feedback on the various policy options being considered. The first workshop on May 26 will start with an optional “Medicaid Waiver 101” session for participants who are new to 1115 Medicaid waivers or need a refresher. The full agenda is linked below.
Background
The overall goal for the next 1115 Medicaid waiver is to advance health equity in our state. Under that umbrella, there are four goal areas:
- Creating an equity-centered system of health
- Expanding access to coverage
- Encouraging smart, flexible spending through global budgets; and
- Reinvesting savings in across systems to promote equity
Within each goal area, OHA will share the initial policy concept outlines that OHA has begun to draft based on feedback we have previously heard, hear from stakeholders about where they see barriers, issues, and concerns with how things are today, and potential solutions for the future.
