The Oregon Health Authority is putting out a call to current and previously licensed healthcare professionals in Oregon to register with SERV-OR to volunteer in support of COVID-19 vaccination efforts. As you know, health care resources are strained, and communities need healthcare professionals who can make themselves available to join the response.
What is SERV-OR? SERV-OR is a statewide pool of licensed physicians, PAs, nurses, pharmacists, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers, behavioral health providers, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals who are willing to volunteer in response to federal, state, and local emergencies. Sign up to volunteer with SERV-OR today. How can you help as a volunteer professional after registering with SERV-OR? There are several ways you may be asked to help, depending on the need. You may be asked to:
- Administer COVID-19 vaccines, or delegate that authority to others;
- Fill various logistical, administrative, or clinical support roles at mass vaccination events;
- Work from home supporting public health vaccine data entry; and/or
- Lend your skills in a wide variety of other volunteer roles.
Former healthcare professionals are also strongly encouraged to be part of the effort. Previously licensed healthcare professionals may qualify to volunteer with SERV-OR. Those interested may register at SERV-OR with their local Medical Reserve Corps Unit and the State Managed Volunteer Pool for Previously Licensed Volunteers. Those who register will receive a no-cost background check and be asked to complete required training before deployment.
Previously licensed physicians and PAs may provide services under the supervision of a current licensee. Physicians and PAs may also qualify to reactivate their licenses with the Oregon Medical Board. Statewide EMS protocol for immunization administration EMS providers may assist in patient care as directed by the supervising physician’s standing orders and within the protocols established by the State of Oregon EMS Medical Director during a declared emergency. See the document “EMS COVID-19 Vaccination Protocol” for more information about necessary training and immunization administration. Thank you for doing your part to keep all of Oregon safe! We ask that you visit the SERV-OR website and sign up today. For additional information and resources, visit the Oregon Medical Board’s website or covidvaccine.oregon.gov.
