Apply now for next round of federal Provider Relief Fund General Distribution
This week, the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that they expect to distribute approximately $15 billion to eligible Medicaid/CHIP providers who have not yet received a payment from the Provider Relief Fund General Distribution.
Examples of providers possibly eligible for this funding include pediatricians, obstetrician-gynecologists, dentists, opioid treatment and behavioral health providers, assisted living facilities, and other home and community-based services providers.
To be eligible, providers must have:
- Directly billed their state Medicaid/CHIP program or Medicaid managed care plans for health care-related services between January 1, 2018, and May 31, 2020; and
- Provided patient care after January 31, 2020.
Bill HHS for COVID-19 testing and treatment of uninsured individuals
HHS also provides claims reimbursement for testing uninsured individuals for COVID-19 and treating uninsured individuals with a COVID-19 diagnosis. All claims will be subject to the same timely filing requirements required by Medicare. Services eligible for reimbursement include:
- Specimen collection, diagnostic and antibody testing.
- Testing-related visits including in the following settings: office, urgent care or emergency room or telehealth.
- Treatment, including office visit (including telehealth), emergency room, inpatient, outpatient/observation, skilled nursing facility, long-term acute care (LTAC), acute inpatient rehab, home health, DME (e.g., oxygen, ventilator), emergency ambulance transportation, non-emergent patient transfers via ambulance, and FDA-approved drugs as they become available for COVID-19 treatment and administered as part of an inpatient stay.
- FDA-approved vaccine, when available.

HHS Initiatives to Address the Disparate Impact of COVID-19 on African Americans and Other Racial and Ethnic Minorities
HHS released a fact sheet on initiatives underway to improve prevention, testing and treatment of COVID-19 in underserved communities. These include:
- Improving our understanding of COVID-19’s impact on minorities
- Making testing and treatment more accessible and affordable
- Tailored guidance for individuals and communities most at risk
- Expanding telehealth options to ensure access to needed care
- Strengthening outreach and effective communication on COVID-19 to minority communities

- Dana Sturtevant, MS, RD, will lead live Zoom videoconferencing sessions focused on increasing your confidence and skills to facilitate conversations with patients about sensitive topics.
- Examples will draw from tobacco use, diabetes management, adolescent immunization, well visits, and other priority topics related to CCO metrics and COVID-19.
- Evidence-based health communication models will include motivational interviewing, the FRAMES model and Five A’s for tobacco cessation counseling.
