Spring Chinook numbers pick up in Willamette River
Spring Chinook passage at Willamette Falls caught fire this week with several days of adult crossings in excess of 1,000 fish. Combine this with excellent waters levels, clarity and temperature and you’ve got a recipe for some good fishing!
Spring turkey hunting open until May 31
Tips for beginners and field reports/forecasts from ODFW district wildlife biologists are available at the spring turkey hunting forecast. This NW Sportsman Magazine article has some good tips on late season turkey hunting.
Check your controlled hunt application
It’s always a good idea to double check that your controlled hunt applications are correct. Use the My Hunter Information page. You can make changes to your choices through June 1 using this controlled hunt change form.
New access policy and permit fees on portions of Weyerhaeuser property
Weyerhauser will be making changes to its access policy this year, with new rules taking effect Aug. 1. Hunters and other recreational users will be required to purchase a permit to access some Weyerhauser properties.
ODFW has posted a list of controlled hunts affected (pdf) by the new policy. See the Weyerhaeuser Oregon Recreation Access page for more information.
Closure of Wallowa Mountain Loop Road (Forest Road 39)
A 13-mile stretch of the Wallowa Mountain Loop road, also known as the North Pine section of FSR 39, is closed for construction. Please see the Wallowa Whitman Loop Road Updates page for the latest information and maps.
