ODFW Commercial Dungeness Crab Fishery Update

Confirmed opening dates for Oregon commercial crab fishery in southern area

Additional domoic acid samples were collected January 29^th (Monday) from Brookings (Area 50-L) and Port Orford (Area 50-K), and results became available February 1^st (Thursday).  All crab viscera results were below threshold for the second test in a row, therefore the fishery from Cape Blanco to the Oregon/California Border will open without any evisceration restrictions as follows:

73 hr presoak begins (setting gear): February 4, 8:00AM                 

Hold Inspections: February 6

Start date (pulling gear): February 7, 9:00AM

Oregon Department of Agriculture will continue to monitor these areas for biotoxins in crab, with the next sample collection targeted for February 14th. All domoic acid test results and testing schedules are on ODA’s website http://www.oregon.gov/ODA/programs/FoodSafety/Shellfish/Pages/CrabBiotoxinInfo.aspx
