NEW WASHINGTON/OREGON INTEROPERABILITY GROUP
Representatives from several Oregon and Washington counties met several times recentlys to create the Washington/Oregon Regional Joint Interoperability Committee (WORJIC). The WORJIC is comprised of representatives from each of the counties including members of the 911, public safety radio, and emergency management communities. Joe Davitt, 911 Manager for Wasco county and the chair of the new group, described their goals as being centered on interoperability, ranging from working towards a shared computer aided dispatch (CAD) system, to developing procedures for interoperable radio frequency use within the region. Mr. Davitt and members of the WORJIC worked with ADCOMM Engineering through a state homeland security grant to assess interoperability within the region. The primary recommendation of the study was the creation of a governance group. The WORJIC is currently made up of Hood River, Wasco, Sherman, Gilliam, Wheeler, Umatilla, and Morrow Counties, and the Washington county of Skamania. The group hopes to incorporate Klickitat, WA as well.

SIEC NEWS
2020 OREGON SCIP TO BE VOTED ON
The State Interoperability Executive Council (SIEC) is expected to vote on the 2020 State Communications Interoperability Plan (SCIP) at its next meeting. The SCIP is a mid-range planning document that identifies goals and objectives for interoperability within Oregon for the next 1-3 years. Compliance with the SCIP is a fundamental requirement for many grant programs that fund communications projects, equipment, and infrastructure. In addition to traditional priorities related to land mobile radio systems, the 2020 SCIP identifies several new objectives and goals related to Next-Gen 911; emergency alerts, warnings, and notifications systems; and cyber-security. The addition of these elements reflects a more holistic view of the emergency communications ecosystem.
