April is School Library Month!
Communities Matter @ Your Library®
School Library Month (SLM) is the American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) celebration of school librarians and their programs. Every April school librarians are encouraged to create activities to help their school and local community celebrate the essential role that strong school library programs play in a student's educational career. Read about the history of School Library Month.
The 2013 theme is Communities matter @ your library®. The AASL School Library Month Committee is busy planning activities and creating resources to help school librarians celebrate. Check the Website for more information.
Beyond Words: the Dollar General School Library Relief
Fund
Dollar General, in collaboration with the American Library
Association (ALA), the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the
National Education Association (NEA), is sponsoring a school library disaster
relief fund for public school libraries in the states served by Dollar General.
The fund will provide grants to public schools whose school library program has
been affected by a disaster. Grants are to replace or supplement books, media
and/or library equipment in the school library setting.
The program also features a
comprehensive website devoted to disaster
preparedness with
resources and a toolkit to help school librarians prepare for and deal
with natural disasters and terrorist acts.
