Announcing
TLE Working Group #2
The Teacher and Leader Effectiveness (TLE) Commission is working with educators to establish recommendations to the Oklahoma State Board of Education regarding the quantitative portions of the TLE Evaluation System.
The first working group has completed the task of drafting the guidelines for Other Academic Measures, and their recommendations were presented to the State Board of Education for approval on Wednesday, December 19. We would like to invite you to be a part of the second working group, which will be established for Commission Members and other interested parties to study the research, consider the options, draft guidance documents, and dive deep into the details of the recommendations for the TLE system.
The second working group will focus on: Quantitative Measures/Calculations for Non-Tested Grades and Subjects and Teachers without a Teaching Assignment
The quantitative portion of teacher and leader evaluations under the TLE System, which will comprise 35% of the evaluation, will be calculated based on Value-Added or Student Growth Data. In addressing those teachers and leaders in grades and subjects for which there is no state-mandated testing measure to create a quantitative assessment, the TLE Commission and the Oklahoma State Board of Education have chosen to:
Conduct more research to determine the appropriate measure(s) of student achievement taking into account a combination of multiple measures and including teacher, leader, and specialist input.
A list of options needs to be drafted for presentation to the TLE Commission and the Oklahoma State Board of Education. In addition, consideration must be given as to whether or not percentages for qualitative/quantitative measures should be adjusted for teachers of non-tested grades/subjects and those without a teaching assignment.
Any TLE Commission Member or other interested party may participate in the working group, but it is essential that attendees register so that we have enough space, handouts, facilitators, etc.

Are our school networks ready for online learning? We believe that every teacher and student deserves first-rate access to online
materials and tools to help them succeed – but a shocking 80% of schools nationwide have insufficient Internet access.
Which is why on February
1st, 2013 the State Department of Education is kicking off the Oklahoma School Speed Test Month as
part of the National School Broadband Test in conjunction with
EducationSuperHighway. Starting on the 1st students, teachers, or any person on
a school network can test how fast their school’s Internet is, and become part
of the movement to upgrade every school to high-speed Internet.
By collecting 10
Speed Tests at every one of Oklahoma’s 1,700+ schools, we will create an
inventory of in-state Internet access. This inventory will be used in budgeting
to make the most compelling case for upgrading school Internet connections so
teachers and students have high-speed access to online learning, and to ensure
our schools are ready for the 2014 Next Gen Assessments.
Get involved with
Oklahoma SchoolSpeedTest Month and help
upgrade public school internet! Become a School School Speed Test Champion, race against other schools and districts
to collect the most tests, and enter to win a $100 gift card to Staples. Want to learn more? Go to:http://partners.schoolspeedtest.org/okroc.html
