ACE Requirements for Graduates

Parents with a student entering or in high school should know that starting this year, all Oklahoma graduates must show proficiency in four of seven subject areas to graduate High School. To show proficiency, a student must score a satisfactory or advanced on the end-of-instruction exam (EOI) or complete one of the other options available. Parents or guardians should have been provided a parent letter with their child’s results from their child's school.

Sara A. Smith, Director of Gifted and Talented Education at the Oklahoma State Department of Education has compiled a list of 2012 Summer Programs for for educators, students, and parents. This is by no means an exhaustive list; neither is the Oklahoma State Department of Education recommending any particular program over another, but hopefully this will give kids and parents some fun options for the summer break.

Parent Night

The State Department of Education will host a free Parent Power Night from 6 to 7:45 p.m. June 11, 2012, as part of the department’s Vision 2020 Conference. Parents or other child caregivers can attend breakout sessions that will focus on topics such as college and career planning, ACE for parents, Career Tech, job profiling, parental involvement, what to know about mental illness, understanding your child and the cyber world, and drug abuse.
