The annual child count is October 1, and the process for validating and certifying the child count is changing. To help districts prepare, the Data Team is hosting three virtual training sessions the first week of September. Registration dates and details are available here. We highly recommend that all directors attend one of the three sessions (they are identical). To prepare for child count, we also recommend that special education directors get authorization in the Wave to review the annual October 1 Consolidated Report.
Contact a member of the Data Team if you have questions about Wave access or other concerns in preparation for child count.
Special Education Directors must have access to the Wave October 1 Consolidated Report to be able to review the official special education child count list for state funding and federal reporting. Please review the attached guidance to have your Superintendent establish your account to access the report. Please note that if you already have Wave access, the Consolidated Report is not yet open, so you will not see it in the report list.
Spring exits have largely processed through EDPlan. Districts must review their exit reports at this time. Access your report through the EDPlan Insights option in Reports, selecting the “End of Year” folder to find the Exit Report for SY 21-22. If students are not listed on this report but should be (all exits for 14-21 year old students except “transfer to another school system” should be reviewed), or if the exit reason is incorrect, you may submit a data appeal once you review the qualifications for inclusion. Please read the Appeal Procedures document for guidance and support. We will accept appeals through September 7, but do require that districts check the qualifications before submitting a request.

For students with challenging behaviors, a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) serves as the foundation for identification and development of supports, instruction, and intervention within a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). Given the importance and complexity of FBA data collection and analysis processes, specific and specialized training is necessary for all personnel who will be engaged in conducting an FBA.
The Oklahoma Autism Center will provide a qualifying specialized training in Functional Behavior Assessments on September 28th. While this training will be applicable for supporting all students, regardless of disability category, participants must also have attended the "Reducing Challenging Behavior for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder" on September 27th.
Costs associated with participation, including registration and travel, can be reimbursed through Project 613 applications.
Questions on using Project 613, please email Abby Johnson.
