Spotlight Story

chalk art 1

As we work through this challenging time, two Oklahoma City artists beautified the sidewalk outside St. Anthony hospital to show appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and other health workers.

The art work was created by Elisha Gallegos, art teacher at Shidler Elementary in OKCPS and Miranda Chisholm, a local artist. Elisha stated, "The message was to give the employees hope and love from their community. When they are experiencing their hard days, maybe the chalk art will give them optimism and joy."

Copyright Concerns

If you are planning to post teaching videos online to social media platforms (YouTube, Facebook, etc.), please read the new Copyright Concerns in Distance Learning document. This information especially applies to music and books. Online talent shows are also addressed.

If you are posting videos within Canvas, Google Classroom, etc., the copyright guidance is different. Canvas and Google Classroom are limited spaces and function as your face-to-face classroom right now. Copyright applies the same as it would within your classroom.

Statewide Visual Art Lesson Google Drive

If you are a visual art educator, you might consider asking for access to the NEW statewide visual art lesson drive. Teachers are sharing lesson ideas, both online and offline, within the drive. Click HERE to ask for permission to access the drive.

Social Media Resources

Many resources have been shared on Facebook and other social media platforms in recent days. You might consider joining the following Facebook groups for resources and support.

Congressional Art Competition

Congressional Art Work

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, high schools students across Oklahoma can submit artwork for the annual Congressional Art Competition. Since 1982, the program has allowed lawmakers to encourage and recognize the artistic talent of young constituents in their districts.

Winning artwork from each Congressional district is displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol, and winning artists and a guest may be flown to Washington, D.C., for a reception and awards presentation.

Deadlines are set by each individual House member and are available on their respective websites. View your member's website for additional rules and guidelines:

  • 1st District of Oklahoma - Congressman Kevin Hern (website). Deadline April 27.
