Virtual Meet Up Opportunities

Good morning, OKEarlyEd community,

A lot has changed in the past couple weeks!

As you may be aware, the State Board of Education unanimously approved an order that implements a Distance Learning Plan to complete the 2019-20 school year for Oklahoma students without reopening school buildings.

We know you will be working closely with your administration to plan for distance learning in the coming days. The Curriculum and Instruction Team at OSDE is currently working on guidance and resources to support you with that plan and will be sharing those resources by the end of the week.

To better serve you, we will be hosting the following virtual meetings:

Participants will have an opportunity to gain resources and collaborate with other teachers around the state to plan for distance learning education. While the platform limits participation to 300 people, we will record the meeting and share the recording through the Newsletter.

In the coming weeks, we will host regular virtual meetings to provide opportunities for teachers to share resources and collaborate.

In preparation for our Zoom meeting tomorrow, I have created a "Distance Learning - Early Childhood Assistance" form. Fill out the form with any questions or assistance needed that can be addressed during the meeting.

Also, if you would like, wear your favorite school shirt during our Zoom meeting so we can see where everyone is from on the call. #SpiritShirtFriday

OKEarlyEd has the most amazing educators; we can't wait to see you tomorrow!

Don't forget to join the #OKEarlyEd Facebook group too; you'll be able to ask questions and get some amazing ideas from other Oklahoma educators. #OKEarlyEd is a Facebook forum for Oklahoma's early childhood educators to support one another through sharing ideas, resources, and information with one another. Staying connected has always been important to educators, and in these times of new experiences, it may be more important than ever. We are better together!

Depending on the grades you teach, there are different Facebook groups you may want to join:

Resources

To say that there has been an avalanche of information pushed at all of us in the recent weeks would be putting it mildly.  I have watched countless videos of authors and educators, attended numerous webinars on the topics that are timely and relevant, and read more blogs and articles than ever before.  Some of them have been helpful, reassuring, and insightful and some have been less so.

The last thing I want is to be a part of that avalanche, so in each newsletter I will only share a few that I found to be worthwhile.

  • Edutopia - Articles on online learning, teacher wellness, student engagement, and more.
  • Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems - Children of all ages can introduce art into their day by watching these videos that the Kennedy Center has provided.  These videos are truly both fun and educational and a welcome respite from the worries of daily life.
  • Two Writing Teachers - This site offers everything from tips for distance learning to book reviews to personal writing opportunities.
  • Dreme TE Project - This site of free, research-based materials for early childhood educators to support development and research in early math education.
