Child Count Finalized

The window for appealing your October 1 special education child count or cleaning errors has closed. Your district’s final numbers are posted in the Single Sign-on Special Education Child Count application for viewing and certification.


Professional Development Bonus for District Determinations

Districts have a few more days to submit your professional development documentation to receive up to two bonus points on the annual district determination. Please submit your information through this link.  Note that not all PD qualifies for the bonus; please read the qualifications carefully when you open the link. The deadline to submit your documentation is October 20.

 


District Data Profiles

Draft District Data Profiles are being sent to all special education directors this afternoon by email. If you do not receive it, please call the main line (405-521-3351) and ask to speak to a member of the data team (or call or email one of them directly). We may not have the correct email address or name on file for the mailing.

Please review your DDP for accuracy. If you have questions about your data or wish to challenge a result, please contact a member of the data team. You have until November 1 to challenge any results listed on the DDP. We will issue final DDPs with the November 15 mail-out of district determinations and differentiated monitoring results.


Oklahoma Alternate Assessment Program (OAAP) 2019-2020

Student Enrollments

Students have been uploaded into Kite Educator Portal. Districts may begin creating rosters for their teachers now. Enrollment is based off data in OKEdPlan from 8/25/2019. Any student marked as taking the OAAP after 8/25/2019 will need to be uploaded into Kite manually by the DTC. Contact the DLM OK Service Desk at 1-844-261-6481 or DLM-support@ku.edu for assistance. OAAP Training Live Webex

The Office of Special Education Services is offering live trainings for the OAAP. These training will cover the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) Alternate Assessment System for both the Instructionally Embedded (IE) Assessments and Year-End Assessments (YE). In addition, information regarding the 1.0 Percent Participation Cap will also be presented. Space for the in-person trainings are limited. However, a live online training via Webex will take place Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 10:00 –12:00 pm. Click Here to Register for Live Online Event.

Fall Dyslexia Trainings

All of the scheduled Oklahoma Regional Dyslexia Workshops have reached seating capacity at this time.  We are working to possibly add an additional day or venue to add space.  If you would like to add your name to the waiting list, please email Michele.DeBerry@sde.ok.gov the name of the participant, position, district, location they wish to attend, as well as email and phone number.  Any venue changes or additional dates will be announced through this Listserv. 


Secondary Transition Professional Development Opportunities

Free Secondary Transition Professional Development Opportunities in Oklahoma City, Owasso, Lawton, and Enid provided by the OU Zarrow Center.

Level 1 Beginning Course: Transition Assessments for Students with Mild/Moderate Disabilities

Level 2 Intermediate Course: Using EdPlan to Develop Meaningful Transition Plans for Students with Mild to Moderate Disabilities

Level 3 Advanced Course: Student Involvement in the IEP and Transition Planning

Paraprofessional and Services & Management of Special Education Trainings

The Oklahoma State Department of Education - Special Education Services Division will be hosting Paraprofessional and SPED Management Trainings in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Topics of discussion include: Behavior Strategies, Progress Monitoring, Data Collection, and Classroom Behavior Management for Paraprofessionals. These trainings, in addition to online work, will provide the required hours of SDE curriculum necessary for the SDE Paraprofessional Certificate.

Paraprofessional Training in Pepper

OSDE has released an alternate format to receive paraprofessional training in addition to the existing training offered through Career Technology Centers.

Participants can register here for course access.

Course sequence:

All courses must be completed in sequential order. Upon completion, choose “View transcript” which documents all courses completed within Pepper.

Paraprofessional Certificate:

Send the Pepper “transcript” to Jill Hilst at Jill.Hilst@sde.ok.gov or 405-522-0452 along with documentation for other Paraprofessional requirements (https://sde.ok.gov/special-education-paraprofessionals). OSDE will send a Paraprofessional “certificate” to the individual submitting the request.


Part C to Part B Regional Transition Training

OSDE-SES in partnership with SoonerStart will be hosting regional transitional trainings in October and November. These training opportunities will be centered on effectively transitioning students (and families) from an early intervention program under Part C to their next program. The goal of the training is to help Part C and Part B programs develop collaborative State and local practices to ensure smooth transitions for children (and families) and to ensure programs meet federal compliance. 

All transition trainings are from 9:30am to 12:00pm. Specific dates and locations for each regional training are listed here

Special Note: LEA representatives and SoonerStart staff need only to attend one training session; all sessions will provide the same content. Additionally, the intended LEA audience is superintendents, special education directors, and/or child find supervisors. Space is limited. Therefore, registration is limited to two representatives for each LEA. 


October EdPlan Webinars

EdPlan is providing 2-hour webinars in October.

Goal Progress Monitoring and Progress Reports – Benefits users reporting on student progress. This is an introduction to the new Goal Progress Monitoring (GPM) module which includes setting up goals and objectives for GPM for a new IEP and an existing IEP, connecting goals to services, entering the student data, reports and changes to OK EdPlan over the summer.

IEP Process –Benefits users responsible for student IEP’s. We cover caseload and student organization as well as how to create a compliant IEP in EdPlan.

Eligibility Process – Benefits users that are responsible for Eligibility Determination for students. We cover an introduction to completing the Eligibility Process in EdPlan.
504 Process – Benefits users that are responsible for the eligibility and the creating a sec. 504 Student Plan. This webinar cover the navigation of EdPlan 504 process.

Creating a Goal Bank – Benefits users responsible for writing goals and objectives. We cover how to create an individual user Goal and Objective bank based on the user log-in.

Once the document is opened, you can choose which date and time works best. To register for a particular webinar, click on the Registration Link next to the one you want to attend.


The Oklahoma Deaf Blind Technical Assistance Project

The Communication Matrix : A free source for assessment and implementation support for students with complex communication needs.

The Communication Matrix is an assessment instrument for individuals functioning at the earliest stages of communication who may use any form of communication, including pre-symbolic communication and augmentative or alternative forms. This workshop will provide participants hands on opportunities to use the Communication Matrix tool. Participants will be introduced to the IEP guide as well as to the Communication Matrix Custom Report that provides strategies and tools.
