Introducing EdPlan Connect (Parent Portal)

On September 30, 2019, the EDPlan Connect parent portal will be released. The parent portal will allow parents to virtually access their child's IEP or 504 documents, service information, and teacher of record information. Districts will need to make parents aware of EDPlan Connect prior to September 30th. The following documents will assist with this process and provides important information to assist districts and parents in setting up and utilizing EDPlan Connect.

Child Count Open Door Assistance

If you need intensive in-person support to prepare your student records for the October 1 Child Count, you may participate in our "Open Door Assistance" sessions TOMORROW or Thursday (September 18 or 19). Please register for only one session per district. If you cannot attend, we are always happy to address any concerns you have by phone at any time. Register here: September 18 or September 19 .


Child Count Reminder

The Special Education Child Count is collected on October 1. Please review the training slides to ensure that your district's child count is as accurate and complete as possible. Records with errors that are not corrected by October 15 will not be included in the child count. Certification will open on October 2 and is due by end of day on October 15. Please contact a member of the SPED Data Team with questions about correcting errors and updating records in EdPlan 405-521-3351.

Results Based Accountability Survey

As we enter the second year of using an expanded differentiated monitoring system, OSDE-SES seeks your knowledge of the system and your opinions about its implementation over the past year. School Based Health Services

School Based Services Participation Agreement is now available through the Grants Management System. All districts choosing to use this agreement may begin completing their online application. Follow these steps for application completion.

1. Go to "GMS Access/ Select" and scroll to available applications under IDEA.

2. Click "Create" on the line for "School Based Health Part". Once you have created the application it will appear under the applications.

3. Please agree to all assurances, upload the entire contract, and submit.


Science Gen Ed Teachers Sought

Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) staff are seeking General Education Science teachers to participate in the DLM Science Essential Element Expansion Event taking place November 5-7, 2019 in Kansas City, MO.  The purpose of the event is to review existing and develop new alternate academic achievement science content standards which are the academic standards for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. Any General Education Science teacher who is interested in participating will need to complete the recruitment survey through the link included on the attached description of the event. Selected panelists who participate outside the scope of their usual job requirements will be paid a stipend. DLM staff will notify educators who are selected to serve on panels.

2019-2020 OAAP In-Person Trainings

The Office of Special Education Services is offering in-person trainings this fall for the Oklahoma Alternate Assessment Program (OAAP). This training will cover the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) Alternate Assessment System regarding Instructionally Embedded (IE) Assessments and Year-End Assessments (YE). In addition, information regarding the 1.0 Percent Participation Cap will also be presented. OTI Registration

Registration for the 14th Annual Oklahoma Transition Institute (OTI) is now open. They will hold a one-day event in OKC and Owasso on the same exact day. There will be a keynote, breakouts, and a single, long team meeting. Lunch will be provided in each location. Teams will attend the locations designated below. There will not be a call for presentation proposals this year due to the changes. Project 613 funds may also be used.

Hands on Budget Workshops

The Oklahoma State Department of Education, Special Education Services, will once again be providing hands on training for budget completion and approval. This training will address the budget approval process for IDEA Part B. Please send the person responsible for completing the online budget application. Participation is limited. Bring your laptop computer (with Internet capability) and a calculator. To register please click the link to the location you want to attend. Receive one bonus point toward the district’s Risk Assessment with the attendance of a finance representative.

Paraprofessional Training in Pepper

OSDE has released an alternate format to receive paraprofessional training in addition to the existing training offered through Career Technology Centers.

Participants can register here for course access.

Send the Pepper “transcript” to Jill Hilst at Jill.Hilst@sde.ok.gov or 405-522-0452 along with documentation for other Paraprofessional requirements (https://sde.ok.gov/special-education-paraprofessionals). OSDE will send a Paraprofessional “certificate” to the individual submitting the request.


Training for Related Service Providers

Are you a new therapist in the public schools or looking to start providing school-based therapy services? If so, then this is the training you need to get started. School-based services are very different than clinical services including many different team members, laws, and other factors involved with providing services. This course will equip you with what you need to know about the law, your role, documentation, and the evidence-based practice for providing services in the public schools. The course occurs over a five-month period and includes a two-day live orientation, mentor matching, two live training follow-ups, and several virtual training opportunities. This course will fully equip you as a therapist to provide best practice in the public schools. You will not want to miss this FREE opportunity!

Cortical Vision Impairment (CVI) Diane Sheline

Children who have CVI or other forms of brain damage often have unique visual and learning needs. They benefit from the use of specific educational materials, strategies and often, environmental adaptations. Diane Sheline will present information about CVI and share a variety of “CVI Friendly” educational strategies; interventions and teaching materials to help your students/children with C/CVI accomplish their goals.

Part C to Part B Regional Transition Training Save the Date Update

Part C to Part B Regional Transition Training Save the Date Update

OSDE-SES in partnership with SoonerStart will be hosting regional transitional trainings in October 2019. These training opportunities will be centered on effectively transitioning students (and families) from an early intervention program under Part C to the child’s next program. The goal of the training is to help Part C and Part B programs develop collaborative State and local practices to ensure smooth transitions for children (and families) and to ensure programs meet federal compliance.

September EdPlan Webinars

EdPlan is providing 2-hour webinars in September.

September Webinar Topics:

Goal Progress Monitoring and Summer Updates – Benefits users reporting on student progress.  This is an introduction to the new Goal Progress Monitoring (GPM) module which will include setting up goals and objectives for GPM for a new IEP and an existing IEP, connecting goals to services, entering the student data, reports and changes to OK EdPlan over the summer.

EdPlan ConnectBenefits EdPlan Administrators setting up the EdPlan Connect - Parent Portal for the district as well as users that are sharing documents/records with parents via EdPlan Connect.

IEP Process –Benefits users responsible for student IEP’s.  We will cover caseload and student organization as well as how to create a compliant IEP in EdPlan.

Eligibility Process – Benefits users that are responsible for Eligibility Determination for students.  We will cover an introduction to completing the Eligibility Process in Edplan.

504 Process – Benefits users that are responsible for the eligibility and the creating a sec. 504 Student Plan. This webinar will cover the navigation of EdPlan 504 process.

Creating a Goal Bank – Benefits users responsible for writing goals and objectives.  We will cover how to create an individual user Goal and Objective bank based on the user log-in.
