Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) works closely with the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) to review the School-Based Health Services (SBHS) program for ways to further encourage districts to participate and to help subsidize provision of medical services with appropriate Medicaid reimbursement. Due to an update in the approval processes for therapies provided in the school and outpatient settings, the schools’ therapy limits will be driven by the IEP and the private therapy will be processed by their separate prior authorization (PA) request process. There should not be any issues of duplicate same-day billing of services in regards to IEP and outpatient therapy services. We are still advising that coordination of care with private practices and other providers be in place, these are medically necessary services and in the best interest of the student. If your district is having issues with any private therapy practices in telling parents not to sign billing consent for IEP related services, or any other issues, to please email Lana Brown at Lana.Brown@okhca.org.
