Continuing our Statewide Virtual Community of Practice

Educators in the state of Oklahoma are creative, innovative, and incredibly resourceful! Like Terms Communities are interactive digital meetings that give teachers an opportunity to learn from one another and showcase the expertise in our state. Come back and join us on January 18 at 4:00 pm for the grade level breakout sessions and add to the conversation as we continue to improve mathematics instruction in our state!

What to Expect at Our Monthly Meetings

Each month we will host a virtual meeting that is interactive and available to teachers across our state.  In each meeting we will:

  1. Solve a mathematical task collectively
  2. Discuss student responses and potential misconceptions
  3. Explore implementation strategies that can impact our classrooms
  4. Discuss topics for future meetings!

Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

PAEMST

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 mathematics and science teaching. Established by Congress in 1983, the President may recognize up to 108 exemplary teachers each year.

The award recognizes those teachers who develop and implement a high-quality instructional program that is informed by content knowledge and enhances student learning. Since the program's inception, more than 4,700 teachers have been recognized for their contributions in the classroom and to their profession.

Awardees serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in the improvement of STEM education.

Why Apply?

Recipients of the award receive the following:

  • A certificate signed by the President of the United States.
  • A paid trip to Washington, D.C., to attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities.
  • A $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.
  • An opportunity to build lasting partnerships with colleagues across the nation.

Teacher Innovator Awards

Do you know a teacher who has inspired others to challenge the limits of what’s possible? Who encourages others to create bold solutions?

Consider nominating them for The Henry Ford Innovation Nation Teacher Innovator Award. They are looking for teachers who demonstrate the habits of an innovator. Teachers who inspire their students to challenge the rules and take risks, who demonstrate how to be collaborative and empathetic, and teach the value of learning from staying curious and learning from failure.
