Incident # 2026-0011471
Date & Time: 2/16/2026 at 5:57 PM
Locations: 5200 block of Harmon Dr.
Deceased: Saathoff, Colten (W/M, DOB: 2/20/2003)
Wounded Suspect: Saathoff, Steven (W/M, DOB: 2/2/1976)
Involved Officer: MSgt. Mathew Nelson – 19 years of service
Narrative: An OKCPD patrol officer was in the area of the 5200 block of Harmon Drive when he was alerted to a possible shooting nearby. A second officer, MSgt. Mathew Nelson, arrived and saw Steven Saathoff armed with a pistol, firing it. The two ended up in an armed confrontation that led to Steven Saathoff being shot by MSgt. Nelson. Steven Saathoff was transported to an area hospital where he remains currently.
Investigators learned some nearby neighbors were outside when Colten Saathoff walked toward them and suddenly began firing a pistol at them and punched a female in the mouth. The neighbors fled inside their trailer. Steven Saathoff then took the pistol from his son, Colten, and illegally entered the neighbors’ trailer where he fired shots at a male inside the residence. Steven then returned to his trailer where he eventually became involved in the armed confrontation with MSgt. Nelson and was subsequently shot.
Upon checking Steven Saathoff’s trailer, officers found his son, Colten Saathoff, deceased. He appeared to have been shot to death. It remains unclear whether Colten Saathoff killed himself or was killed by his father, Steven.
MSgt. Nelson has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
