Date & Time of Incident: 1/11/2026 at 2:39 AM.
Location: 10 N. Broadway Ave.
Victim: July, Sunjun (B/M, DOB: 1/22/2003)
Arrested: Colbert, Warren (B/M, DOB: 9/28/2009)
Narrative: Early yesterday morning, police responded to a shooting at the Wyndham Grand Hotel near Broadway and Sheridan. Responding officers found the hotel security guard, Sunjun July, in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers also found another hotel employee who had been pistol whipped during the incident. Mr. July was transported to an area hospital where he died. The hotel employee who was pistol whipped was also transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released.
Investigators learned that a group of juveniles entered the lobby of the hotel and were asked by security to leave. This led to an altercation in the parking lot between one of the juveniles and the two employees of the hotel. It was during this altercation that the suspect, Warren Colbert, pulled a pistol, shot the security guard and pistol whipped the other hotel employee. At some point during the fracas, Colbert accidentally shot himself in the leg. He then fled the scene on foot but was found a short time later and taken into custody. Colbert was treated and released from the hospital and later booked into the Berry House on a murder complaint.
