Officer-Involved Shooting #5 of 2025

Date & Time: 9/24/2025 at 3:11 AM.
Location: 3000 block of SW 64th Terrace
Wounded/Arrested: Redshirt, Jason (W/M, DOB: 11/4/1979)
Charges: Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a police officer
Involved Officer: Sgt. Christopher Skinner – 10 years of service
Narrative: Yesterday at 3:11 AM, police were dispatched to a disturbance in the 3000 block of SW 64th Terrace. Sgt. Christopher Skinner arrived first and found Jason Redshirt standing outside of a residence, shouting. Sgt. Skinner attempted to deescalate the situation by talking with Redshirt to calm him down. Redshirt responded by cursing at Sgt. Skinner and yelling racial slurs at him. As Sgt. Skinner continued his efforts to deescalate the encounter, Redshirt approached him aggressively and was pepper sprayed. Redshirt retreated to a trailer that was loaded with wood, with bricks lying nearby. Redshirt began hurling the bricks and wood at the officer, at which time he was shot.
Officers then rendered aid to Redshirt until paramedics arrived and transported him to an area hospital where he remains. Sgt. Skinner sustained minor injuries from being struck by the items that were thrown at him.
Sgt. Skinner has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
