TRAFFIC ALERT: Portions of Melrose Lane to Close for Water Line Installation near Rockwell Ave.; Work begins Tues., May 27

Starting at 5 a.m. on Tues., May 27, a 400-foot section of Melrose Lane west of Rockwell Ave. will close as contractors working for the Oklahoma City Utilities Department begin replacing a one-mile stretch of 42-inch water main. This is the first phase of a larger project to replace the water main between Rockwell and MacArthur Blvd.
Detour signs will be put in place to direct local traffic along Melrose Lane.
Portions of Rockwell Ave. near Melrose will be reduced to one lane in each direction for several months while crews work near the area. Traffic signals at the intersection will be adjusted to help manage traffic flow.
Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible. Those who must travel through the intersection should use extra caution.
Once work is finished west of Rockwell, crews will move eastward down Melrose Lane, replacing one section of main at a time in an effort to minimize traffic impacts and neighborhood disruptions. Each phase of the project will take about 90 days to complete. The full project is expected to wrap up by March 2026.
