Newly elected Ward 7 Councilman Camal Pennington and Ward 3 Councilwoman Katrina Bedell Avers were sworn in today to four-year terms on the Oklahoma City Council alongside re-elected Ward 4 Councilman Todd Stone and Ward 1 Councilman Bradley Carter.
The Council members took the oath of office at the start of Tuesday’s Council meeting.
Councilwoman Avers won the Ward 3 seat after defeating Councilwoman Barbara Young in the Feb. 11 general election.
Councilman Pennington was elected to represent Ward 7 during an April 1 Oklahoma City Council runoff election. Pennington replaces Councilman Lee E. Cooper, Jr., who the Council appointed to fill Nikki Nice’s seat after she was elected to represent State Senate District 48.
Carter and Stone ran unopposed and were automatically elected. It’s the second term for each of them.
The nonpartisan Oklahoma City Council has nine members: the Mayor, who is elected citywide, and one member from each of the City’s eight Wards. The members serve part-time at the head of the City’s Council-Manager form of government. The Mayor’s annual salary is $24,000, and Council members earn $12,000.

The next Oklahoma City Council election is in 2027 for Wards 2, 5, 6 and 8. The next mayoral election is in 2026.
