Date & Time: 9/2/2024 at 3:58 PM.
Location: 116 SE 41st St.
Arrested: Cruz, Mario (H/M, DOB: 2/10/2000)
Involved Officer: Sgt. Jesus Hernandez – seven years of service.
Narrative: On 9/2/2024 at 3:56 PM, police responded to a call of a man who had fired a shot at another person. When officers arrived, the suspect, Mario Cruz, refused officers’ commands to come out. Instead, he chose to barricade himself inside the residence.
He later broke through an attic wall and fired shots at officers. Mr. Cruz eventually jumped to the ground from the hole in the attic wall, moved to the rear of the residence where he confronted officers with a pistol. He was subsequently shot by a member of the OKCPD Tactical Unit.
Mr. Cruz was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he remains at the time of this posting. There were no other injuries reported.
Sgt. Hernandez has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
