Ribbon cutting and open house set for MAPS 3 Senior Health & Wellness Center on South Western May 22

The community is invited to join Mayor David Holt, Oklahoma City Council members and the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, for a ribbon cutting and open house for the new MAPS 3 Senior Health and Wellness Center, 13660 S Western Ave.
The YMCA Healthy Living Center, a 44,800-square-foot state-of-the-art facility, features a heated lap and therapy pool, a large fitness center, a gym with pickleball setups, an elevated indoor walking/jogging track, a game room, classroom space for arts and cooking, group exercise studios, a reading room, recreation and sports activities, a health clinic and more.
The Center features six sculptures created by Rachel Mica Weiss titled Infinite Arches. The installation is made of hundreds of strands of polyester rope that crisscross beneath one another over the fitness area. The project was funded by the City’s 1% for Arts Program.
“At the YMCA, we recognize the importance of supporting older adults in leading active and fulfilling lives,” YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City President & CEO Kelly Kay said. “The new YMCA Healthy Living Center will provide seniors with affordable access to healthy aging amenities and services, including community-building opportunities to reduce isolation and loneliness. The facility is a testament to our commitment to providing the resources and opportunities seniors need to thrive.”
The YMCA will operate the Center, which is open to people ages 50 and older. Center hours will be from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Visit ymcaokc.org or call (405) 378-0420 for membership information.
“The opening of this Wellness Center marks the conclusion of the MAPS 3 initiative, over 14 years after voter approval,” Mayor David Holt said. “MAPS 3 included the largest MAPS project in history and some of the most impactful projects. It leaves a remarkable legacy in our City, and I’m grateful to those who worked so hard for so long to see it through to completion, especially the Citizens Advisory Board and its subcommittees. Any remaining MAPS 3 tasks will now transfer to the MAPS 4 board. Our community anticipation also now transfers to MAPS 4, as we look forward to 16 more projects and $1.1 billion in quality-of-life investments in OKC.”
MAPS 4 includes $16.7 million to build a fifth wellness center and $15 million to establish an operating fund and to provide financial assistance for low-income seniors.
About MAPS 3
MAPS 3 is a $777 million, debt-free capital improvement program to improve the quality of life in Oklahoma City. It is funded by a 1-cent sales tax initiative that began in April 2010 and ended in December 2017. MAPS 3 funds eight projects: Downtown Convention Center, Downtown Public Park, Modern Streetcar/Transit, Oklahoma River Improvements, Oklahoma State Fairgrounds Improvements, Senior Health and Wellness Centers, Trails and Sidewalks.
