Date & Time: 11/9/2023 at 7:50 AM
Location: 1316 NE 12th St.
Involved Officer: MSgt. Daniel Higginbottom - 20 years of service
Deceased Suspect: Owens-Bey, Azjaynee (B/M, DOB: 12/26/1991)
Narrative: On November 9, 2023, OKCPD officers were dispatched to a domestic call at 1316 NE 12th St. The calling party indicated the suspect, Azjaynee Owens-Bey, was armed with a gun.
Arriving officers found Mr. Owens-Bey outside of the complex, pointing a firearm at numerous people. Upon seeing the officers, Mr. Owens-Bey ran back inside the building, still armed with a pistol. It’s important to note there were numerous unarmed people inside the building, and Mr. Owens-Bey had already aimed his pistol at many of them.
As officers entered the lobby area of the building, Mr. Owens-Bey pointed his firearm at officers and fired one shot at them. The incident ended when the armed suspect was shot and killed by MSgt. Daniel Higginbottom.
MSgt. Higginbottom has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. There were no other injuries reported.
