Check out these weekend events hosted by the Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation Department. OKC Parks has something for everyone.
Friday, Oct. 6
The Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center, 909 Fredrick Douglas Ave., is hosting our fall film series with “Sing 2” on Friday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m. This event is free for the entire family.
Saturday, Oct. 7
Martin Park’s Rise and Shine Kayaking adventure will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m. Take a journey down the North Canadian River with expert staff and discover the beauty of Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge. This is for ages 18 and up with a $30 registration fee. Please note the kayak weight limit is 300 pounds and pre-registration is required for this event. Register at okc.gov/parks. Registration ends Oct. 5.
Martin Park Nature Center is hosting “Science Spotlight” Saturday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. with a registration fee of $5. The Museum of Osteology will present a fascinating look at your favorite animals and plants where you’ll gain a new admiration for the delicate balance of nature. Register by Oct. 5 at okc.gov/parks.
Young musicians can learn the fundamentals of jazz music at the Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m. Kids ages 12 to 18 will perform in the City Youth Jazz Ensemble and represent the African American Musical Art form of Jazz Music. Sign up at okc.gov/parks for free.
