Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation is proud to produce another Broadway hit “Godspell,” a musical by John-Michael Tebelak.
An opening casting call* will be held April 28-29 at the Taylor Recreation Center, 1115 SW 70th St. The audition times are below.
- Friday, April 28, from 7-10 p.m.
- Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
*Performers must be 18 or older to audition. Register for an audition time slot at okc.gov/performing-arts. Callbacks will be held Sunday, April 30.
“We are looking for 11 funny, creative and dynamic performers of various backgrounds and experience levels,” OKC Parks Performing Arts Program Coordinator Isaiah Williams said. “The actors will play the roles of Jesus, Judas/John the Baptist and an array of other characters and storytellers.”
Actors should only sign up for one day of auditions. Performers need to bring a headshot (or a photo of you) that’s attached to a theatrical resume. If performers don't have a resume, there will be space to write their experience on your audition form. Auditioners need to prepare a 32-bar cut of an upbeat musical theatre or pop song and bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided.
“Godspell” features a small group of people helping Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and hefty doses of comedic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.
OKC Parks has a robust performing arts division. Averaging four main shows each year, ranging from musicals to theatrical productions, OKC Parks continues to produce stories to inspire and entertain its audiences.
In addition to the large-scale theatrical productions, OKC Parks teaches acting, dance and music classes at the Northwest Optimist Center and Taylor Performing Arts Center. Learn more about these year-round classes at okc.gov/parksignup.
