Incident #2022-0051435
Date & Time of Incident: 7/19/2022 at 3:03 PM
Location: 14000 block of Broadway Extension
Arrested: Fite, Jay Stephen (W/M, DOB: 11/2/1967) Charges: Murder in the Second Degree
Narrative: Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a five-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of the 14000 block of the Broadway Extension. Investigators learned that a utility truck driven by the arrested person, Jay Fite, crashed into a group of vehicles that were stopped at a red light. One of the vehicles that was struck by Mr. Fite’s truck was that of a City of Edmond police officer who was on duty and riding his police motorcycle. The officer was transported to OU Medical Center where sadly he passed away from injuries sustained in the crash.
Mr. Fite was taken to St. Anthony Hospital to be checked out because of the crash. While at the hospital, investigators obtained and served a warrant to draw a sample of Mr. Fite’s blood. He was later booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
No one else was injured in the crash.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the fine members of the Edmond Police Department and the family of the fallen officer as they work through this difficult time. The Edmond Police Department will release the name of the deceased officer.
