OKC water pressure and service interruption update

The record cold weather has caused a substantial number of water line breaks in the water system and at homes and businesses.
Because of the increased demand and the increased number of water main and customer service line failures, system pressures have been lower than normal over the past few days.
Oklahoma City crews are working 31 main breaks across the city and have recently responded to over 400 calls due to private frozen pipes. Water main breaks are currently difficult to locate due to the ice and snow on the ground, and repairs are taking longer.
In addition, a booster station in northwest OKC is having mechanical issues causing many customers to experience low pressure or water service interruptions. Crews have worked through the night to get the station back in operation.
High Demand
Generally, in the winter time the average water demand is 75 million gallons per day. However, the current demand is exceeding 150 million gallons per day. The increase is generally caused by the extra water used by customers running their faucets to keep them from freezing.
