Important Changes to SoonerCare

Exclamation mark graphic

Starting on Jan. 1, 2027, a new federal law requires some SoonerCare members ages 19-64 to work, go to school or help in their community. This will ensure those members keep their SoonerCare health coverage. Review the Work Requirements Screener to see if it may affect you.

What You Need to Do Now

  1. Update your information. Log in to MySoonerCare.org and make sure your phone number, address and email are up to date.
  2. Watch your mail. Check your mail for letters from SoonerCare or the Oklahoma Health Care Authority. You'll get a yellow letter if you need to do something to keep your coverage.
  3. Review resources. If you need help finding a job or enrolling in school, view resources on the Work Requirements page or the links below.

Some members may lose coverage if they are not working, enrolled in school, volunteering or meeting other exemptions.

SNAP Updates

A federal law passed in 2025 changes how the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) operates. Oklahoma Human Services must follow those updates. Here's what you need to know. If you're planning to apply for SNAP, view this checklist to make sure you have the required documents ready.

Benefits to Help Quit Smoking, Tobacco and Vaping

SoonerCare offers tobacco cessation benefits to help you quit and quit for good! These do not count against your six-prescription monthly limit. These benefits include:

  • Counseling with a SoonerQuit provider.
  • Six FDA-approved medications
    • No limit: nicotine gum, nicotine lozenge, nicotine patch and Bupropion (Zyban)
    • Limited: Varenicline (Chantix)
  • Services through the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline.

National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

September is a time for raising awareness about childhood obesity. SoonerCare encourages healthy eating habits and education for children and families. Childhood obesity can lead to many increased risks. These include type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and other diseases.

Adults and children can receive up to six hours of nutrition counseling. They'll learn how to manage childhood obesity through healthy and balanced meal plans. The counseling uses a family-focused approach. It includes making healthy lifestyle changes and eating whole foods. It also talks about age-appropriate behavior change.

Chronic Hepatitis C Drug Coverage

SoonerCare’s preferred drug for most types of hepatitis C is Mavyret. It’s available without prior authorization and usually taken for 8 to 16 weeks. It does count toward your monthly limit. If you’re already taking a different hepatitis C medicine, you don’t need to change.

Many people with hepatitis C don’t feel sick, so testing is the only way to know if you have it. Adults 18 and older should get tested at least once. Anyone with HIV, liver disease, on dialysis or with a history of using needles for non-prescribed drugs should also get tested. Women also need to get tested during each pregnancy.

Ask your health care provider about hepatitis C. They can help you decide if you need to be tested or treated. If you are treated with any hepatitis C drug, it’s very important to take it every day. You must not skip doses. And you must finish the full course of treatment.
