Poor dental hygiene can lead to gum disease, which allows harmful bacteria to enter the bloodstream. This can trigger inflammation and add to cardiovascular issues, including heart disease and elevated blood pressure. It could increase your risk of heart attacks and strokes. Remember to:
- Brush at least twice a day and floss at least once a day. This helps remove plaque-forming bacteria.
- Eat a healthy diet rich in essential nutrients. Reduce refined carbohydrates like added sugars and processed grain foods.
- Avoid smoking and tobacco use, such as dipping and chewing tobacco, cigarettes, vaping or hookah. If you need help quitting, call 800-QUIT NOW or visit OKhelpline.com.
