Lung Health Check: Your Next Step if You're 50+

Taking charge of your health can be as simple as having a conversation with your provider. Are you 50 or older with a history of smoking? You may qualify for a lung cancer screening. If lung cancer is caught early before it spreads, your chances of surviving 5 years or more improve to 65%. SoonerCare also offers a tobacco cessation benefit to help with quitting tobacco.

Skip the Hold: Get a Callback

Your time is valuable. Use the SoonerCare helpline callback feature to save time and not wait on hold. When you select the callback option, your call will be returned in the order it was received. Be sure any spam blocking is disabled on your phone. Also, note that the incoming call might display an out-of-state number.

The Harmful Diabetes and Smoking Link

Managing diabetes is challenging. Smoking can make it harder. Smoking increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 30% to 40% compared to those who don't smoke. The more you smoke, the higher your risk. SoonerCare can help you quit. And it can help with your diabetes. Learn more about the tobacco cessation benefit and diabetes education and support.

Chronic Hepatitis C Drug Coverage

SoonerCare’s preferred drug to treat chronic hepatitis C is Mavyret® (glecaprevir/pibrentasvir). It is available without prior authorization. However, it does count toward your monthly prescription limit. If you are taking a different drug for hepatitis C that’s working for you, you can continue to take it.

Mavyret treats most types of chronic hepatitis C in 8 to 16 weeks. Ask your health care provider about hepatitis C. They can help you decide if you need to be tested or treated. If you are treated with Mavyret or another chronic hepatitis C drug, it’s important to take it every day. Doses must not be skipped, and the full course of treatment must be completed.

Vaniecia: An ABLE Tech Success Story

Vaniecia sits in her power wheelchair in her home. Two Device Reutilization Program staff members stand behind her. They all grin at the camera.

Vaniecia recently acquired housing with the help of the Oklahoma City Fire Department Community Advocacy Program. The program provides alternative assistance for individuals who frequently use 911 services. With a broken motorized wheelchair, Vaniecia couldn’t leave her bedroom. Thanks to the program, she was connected to Oklahoma ABLE Tech’s Device Reutilization program, where she applied for and received a power wheelchair. She can now go to the doctor and is very grateful. “I love the OKC Fire Department and ABLE Tech for helping me,” Vaniecia said.

ABLE Tech helps people get the medical equipment they need. ABLE Tech picks up items that people donate and cleans and fixes donations so they're like new. Then ABLE Tech gives them to Oklahomans who need them most. SoonerCare members are helped first. Visit the Device Reutilization Program page to learn more.
