Governor Mary Fallin to Host Capitol Clothing Drive Benefiting Suited for Success
OKLAHOMA CITY - In honor of the 20-year anniversary of
Suited for Success, Governor Mary Fallin will host a clothing drive at the
Oklahoma Capitol on Tuesday, August 8, which will benefit Suited for Success. The event will be from 10 a.m. until 2
p.m. in the governor’s large conference room, on the second floor of the
Capitol.
Suited for Success is an Oklahoma nonprofit organization
that provides professional clothing to low-income women actively seeking
employment. The clothing drive will help fulfill the mission of “helping women
achieve self-sufficiency.”
The community is encouraged to donate new or gently used
professional women’s clothing, as well as shoes, handbags, unopened cosmetics,
toiletries, scarves and jewelry. Suited for Success requests that all clothing
donations be clean and on hangers. Donations of shoes, handbags and accessories
may be in bags or small boxes.
In addition to wardrobe items, Suited for Success will also
be accepting monetary donations. A $75 donation helps provide a deserving woman
with one suit of clothing, including a pair of dress shoes.
“Our goal is to help women start a new chapter in their
professional lives,” said Susan Walton, executive director of Suited for
Success. “When women feel good about how they look and feel, they are empowered,
self-confident, and ready to approach their career with enthusiasm.”
