The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is teaming up with law enforcement in Garfield County to get impaired drivers off the roads.
The ENDUI team will be joined by members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Enid Police Department to conduct a checkpoint and saturation patrols on Friday, Dec. 14.
The saturation patrol will run from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. with the checkpoint starting at 9:00 p.m. and ending at 12 a.m. The saturation patrols are designed to be high-visibility and deter people from driving while impaired.
In 2017, 656 people were killed in crashes in Oklahoma; almost half of those (324) were killed in drug/alcohol-related crashes. This is up from 43 percent killed in drug/alcohol-related crashes in 2016 in Oklahoma.
