SH-51 (Sixth St.) and US-177 (Perkins Rd.) narrow Tuesday morning
Eastbound and westbound SH-51 (Sixth St.) will narrow to one lane in each direction and shift to the eastbound lanes between the railroad tracks and Jardot Rd. at 8 a.m. Tuesday for a bridge project. Additionally, northbound and southbound US-177 (Perkins Rd.) will narrow to one lane in each direction between Hall of Fame Ave. and 12th Ave. and shift to the northbound lanes through February 2017.
While motorists may continue to make left turns at the Sixth St. and Perkins Rd. intersection, right turns will be prohibited for southbound US-177 (Perkins Rd.) to SH-51 (Sixth St.) through February. Detour for southbound US-177 traffic needing access to SH-51 will be Hall of Fame Ave. to Main St. to SH-51.
The overall project includes the replacement of two bridges on SH-51
(Sixth St.) over Boomer Creek, new left turn lanes on SH-51, new traffic
signals and sidewalk replacement. The project will be built in phases to allow the intersection to
remain open to one lane in each direction at all times throughout
construction.
Additionally, there will be no lane closures at the intersection
through the weekend of home football games at Oklahoma State University.
The $7.4 million project was awarded in July to Duit Construction Co.
Inc. and TTK Construction Co. The contract includes incentives for
early completion. Construction is expected to last through fall 2017.
