Governor’s Council Will Meet Quarterly Beginning in 2014

Changes are in store for the Governor’s Council meeting schedule. The Executive Committee recently decided the Council will meet quarterly. The first meeting is scheduled for Friday, January 24, on the campus of OSU-Oklahoma City. Gov. Fallin will be in attendance that date to address the Council.

Here are the meeting dates for 2014:

Friday, January 24
Friday, April 4
Friday, July 11
Friday, October 3

Council meetings will continue to be held on the campus of OSU-Oklahoma City. Meeting start times will remain 9 a.m.

Executive Committee Approves Annual Report

The Executive Committee has also approved the Council's Annual Report.

The report details success stories involving the Council for Program Year 2012.

Program Helps Oklahomans Get Out of Crime & Into Workforce

The Tulsa World recently reported on the Center for Employment Opportunities, or CEO. The nonprofit program is designed to put men and women with recent criminal convictions into the working world quickly.

NAEP Scores Show Oklahoma Students up in Three Areas, Still Behind Nation

Oklahoma math and reading scores in the 2013 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) are a mixed bag. While the fourth-grade math scores are the highest in 10 years — and 19 points up from 1992 — state education officials note that other results point to the need for stronger academic rigor that is beginning to take shape. Higher Education Chancellor Inducted Into OSGA Hall of Fame

Oklahoma State System of Higher Education Chancellor Glen D. Johnson was recently inducted into the Oklahoma Student Government Association Hall of Fame. Johnson is the group’s inaugural inductee. Read more

Oklahoma’s Unemployment Rate Rises Slightly

Oklahoma’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose from September to October, reaching 5.5%.

In October, statewide seasonally adjusted employment dropped by 1,210 persons as seasonally adjusted unemployment added 2,760.

Oklahoma’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment expanded by 2,900 jobs. Read More
