Google has purchased the 1.4 million square- foot former Gatorade plant located adjacent to their data center in the MidAmerica Industrial Park.
"The purchase of the idled facility across from our data center is a logical choice given our ongoing partnership with the MidAmerica Industrial Park,” said Mike Wooten, Google Oklahoma data center operations manager. “MidAmerica continues to be a strong partner for us here in Oklahoma and we appreciate their proactive and pro-business approach.”
David Stewart, administrator for Mid-America Industrial Park, said the purchase of the facility is a sign of continued economic growth in the region.
“This shows Google is committed to expand and grow here,” he said. “They’ve been a great company to work with, and we’ve got a structure here that’s very flexible and pro-business.”
Google now employs 100 people at its Pryor campus, which included 800 acres before the Gatorade plant purchase. The existing 130,000 square-foot data center powers all of Google’s online services, such as its search engine, Gmail, YouTube, Google Docs and much more.
Last year, Google announced that it would build a second building that would roughly double the data center's capacity and add 50 jobs.
