Council Endorses Several Initiatives

At its most recent meeting the Council gave the green-light to several initiatives:

  • Council approves Career Pathways planning model
  • Council approves Dream It Do it demonstration for Manufacturing careers

The Council also received an update from State Superintendent Janet Barresi on the implementation of Common Core standards and other education-related issues.

Hiring Event

The Governor’s Council for Workforce & Economic Development was one of the co-sponsors of a recent OKMilitaryConnection.com hiring event at Ft. Sill in Lawton. The event, at the Armed Forces Reserve Center, drew nearly 400 total job-seekers. Read More

Federal Grant Provides for Paid Storm Cleanup and Recovery Jobs

Residents from numerous Oklahoma counties were adversely affected by the tornadoes, straight-line winds, flooding and damaging hail that occurred in May 2013. The Oklahoma Department of Commerce was awarded a National Emergency Grant (NEG) through the U.S. Department of Labor, which will provide temporary paid employment positions to aid in cleanup and recovery work. New Survey Finds for Most STEM Jobs, Associate Degree is Sufficient

Oklahoma ranks 42nd in the nation in the number of adults who have college degrees, up one spot from the previous year, according to a national report. Read More

State Unemployment Rate Rises Slightly

Oklahoma’s seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment lost 1,300 jobs in May. The state’s unemployment rate also jumped slightly to 5.0%. Read More
