Ag on Rt 66 June 9-11, 2020
Join Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom on a three day adventure, "Oklahoma Agriculture on Rt. 66." We will travel between Slick, OK and El Reno, OK. We will depart from the Department of Agriculture in OKC and return to the Department of Agriculture.
Encounter Oklahoma agriculture as we travel "America's Main Street." Stops will include: cattle ranches, a dairy farm, a hair sheep farm, an alpaca farm, a tree farm, soybeans, vegetables, and MUCH more!
Event Cost: This tour cost $50 and space is limited. Hotel and meals are provided.

Save the Date: AITC Summer Conference July 23
The summer conference will be at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee. Registration will start April 1.
Oklahoma AITC is seeking excellent teachers to present workshops at the State AITC Summer Conference. Please answer the following questions and submit your workshop proposal by May 1, 2020. Presenters will be contacted by AITC State Coordinators if they are chosen to present. Workshops can be submitted by individual teachers and teams of teachers. $100 stipend for each presenter will be paid for each workshop presented. Workshops must include: AITC lessons and hands on activities. If you have any other questions, please contact an AITC Coordinator!
Tammy Will 2020 AITC Teacher of the Year
Engaging, motivating, educating and encouraging students is what this year’s Ag in the Classroom Teacher of the Year, Tammy Will, is known for. Will, who has taught at Morrison Public Schools for 14 years, has pursued AITC in many ways including attending countless workshops, tours and conferences across the state. Will’s agriculture roots run deep and early in her teaching career, she quickly learned pairing her experience in the industry with teaching would open a world of possibilities to her students.
“I quickly learned that even though my students come from rural backgrounds, they have little understanding of agriculture production and processes,” Will said. “One day, I discussed a lesson that involved farming practices. As I began to explain what I thought was common knowledge, it was clear that my student’s curiosity was driving the discussion.” After this discussion, Will quickly began to look for resources to include in her curriculum that would provide her students with a better understanding of agriculture.
Will teaches chemistry, physical science and STEM classes and said the AITC lessons are impactful on her students and they wait in anticipation when she is setting up labs. “Mrs. Will has a great passion for agriculture and very often uses agriculture to bring science to life for her students,” said Brent Haken, Morrison Public Schools Superintendent.
Tammy Will is to be honored at the state Capitol in Oklahoma City as part of the state’s annual Oklahoma Ag Day celebration Tuesday, April 14. Teacher of the Year sponsors include: Oklahoma Ag Credit, Oklahoma Beef Council, Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women, Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Food and Forestry.

Anna Wofford, third grade teacher at Frederick, is an AITC Teacher of the Year Finalist. Anna has a tower garden in her classroom. Her students have grown green beans, basil, cucumbers, kale and lettuce. The students enjoy harvesting the food and eating it in the classroom. They especially enjoyed making pickles from their cucumbers. Anna is planning an Ag Day for her school, complete with a Made in Oklahoma meal! |
Sherree` Orrell, second grade teacher at East Elementary in Anadarko, is also an AITC Teacher of the Year Finalist. Sherree` has encouraged and recruited other teachers in her building to participate in Ag in the Classroom. She has invited guests into her classroom to read accurate Ag books. She has put together corn and pumpkin units and has integrated them in all subjects. Her students enjoy learning about agriculture! |
