Before the ribbon was cut and the roadway officially opened, 209th East Avenue between Albany and Omaha streets didn’t exist. At least not to the public. Drivers had to travel three miles out of their way to get from the north to the south and vice versa. But, thanks to the voters of the 2011 and 2014 General Obligation Bonds, this new one-mile street opened in 2020. Several street improvements along the 209th E. Ave. corridor have happened since this new section was opened. In this edition of DRIVING BA, City Manager Michael Spurgeon and Asst. City Manager Kenneth Schwab take a look in the rearview mirror to breakdown this project and the difference in construction prices then and now. Watch the brief video by clicking this link or the following graphic showing the before and after views.
This project is part of the more than 11 miles of roadway that have been widened in Broken Arrow since 2014, with another mile of widening currently under construction and another 10.5 miles underway in one of the six phases of a roadway widening project life cycle.
