Broken Arrow is one of the “Best Places to Live in the South,” according to researchers at Consumer Affairs.
The city ranked number 14 on the list of 150 cities in 10 southern states.
Researchers analyzed the 150 most populous cities in the south based on safety, affordability, quality of life, education, and economy.
Broken Arrow ranked highest in safety, affordability, and the economy.
Broken Arrow is a safe community.
“It’s among the safest cities in the South, with a low violent crime rate (2.06 incidents per 1,000 people) and a low property crime rate (13.63 incidents per 1,000 people),” said Consumer Affairs Media Relations Specialist Lauren Jobe.
Broken Arrow is affordable.
“Low housing costs, a strong economy, and a safe community make Broken Arrow a top Southern move,” researchers said.
Broken Arrow lives up to its motto, The City where opportunity lives!
“BA tops state and national averages,” Jobe said. “While 15 percent of Oklahomans live below the poverty line, the City’s poverty rate is nine percent.”
Its 4.3 percent unemployment rate also beats the national average of 5.2 percent.
Plus, Consumer Affairs discovered that Broken Arrow residents could own more home for less cost.
“BA residents spend just 18.1 percent of the median income on housing expenses, the eighth lowest in the South and well below the recommended 30 percent,” Jobe said.
According to Consumer Affairs, Broken Arrow was one of the two best-performing cities in the state. Edmond edged out Broken Arrow by placing seventh on the list at 76.12 percentage points out of 100, compared to Broken Arrow at 73.53.
