There were nearly 50 items were on the agendas of the Broken Arrow City Council, Municipal Authority, and Economic Development Authority meetings on Nov. 19, 2024. Here’s a recap from Tuesday night.
Following the Nov. 13 resignation of former City Councilor and Vice Mayor Christi Gillespie, the Council discussed the next steps in filling the vacancy of the Ward 3 council seat. Gillespie resigned following her successful candidacy for State Senator of District 33.
State statute provides that the remaining Council members shall appoint a person to fill the vacancy within 60 days from the date of the resignation. Council therefore has until Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, to appoint a Ward 3 representative. The appointed representative would then serve until Tuesday, April 1, 2025, the date of the City’s next general election. Council directed City staff to open an application period for persons interested in the appointment to submit a resume and letter of interest to the City Clerk.
