The amphitheater project and a public rideshare program are closer to becoming reality in Broken Arrow following the meetings of the City Council, Municipal Authority, and Economic Development Authority on March 5, 2024.
Here’s a recap of the actions that were taken Tuesday night.
Councilmembers approved an amendment to the City’s agreement with Metropolitan Tulsa Transit Authority (MTTA) for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2024. The amended contract eliminates both 508 bus routes and replaces them with a micro-transit service program. Broken Arrow Transit, a public rideshare system operated by MTTA, will launch later in March as a pilot program. Click here for more information about Broken Arrow Transit.
Two items related to the Sunset at Broken Arrow Amphitheater were approved by Councilors.
These approvals set the stage for construction to begin this summer. As such, Events Park will be closed for events starting on May 31, 2024, to prepare for the infrastructure improvements and development of the amphitheater.

Funding from the Safe Streets for All U.S. Department of Transportation Discretionary Grant Program was approved and will be used to implement low-cost, high impact safety strategies like flashing yellow arrow traffic signal heads, HAWK beacons, reflective yellow backplates for traffic signals, and new traffic signals. The City will receive 80 percent of the funding for design and construction up to a maximum of $4 million total cost.
The City was authorized to purchase 3 acres of property located at 130 E. Washington Street for $725,000. The property will be used for future municipal purposes.
The Municipal Authority green lit the purchase of a refuse truck to replace an older truck in the Solid Waste and Recycling Department fleet. The truck is smaller in size and will be used on streets that aren’t as easily accessed by larger full-size refuse trucks. The cost of the new truck is $154,589.
With its current fleet of trucks, more than 5.7 million pounds of garbage and 606,320 pounds of recycling were collected during the month of January. The full Solid Waste and Recycling Department monthly report was presented to the Authority and can be viewed here.
How much water was used in January? The Utilities Department presented its Water Supply and Wastewater Discharge Monitoring reports on Tuesday night.
- The total amount of water treated was 304.8 million gallons and the average daily use was 9.8 million gallons.
- The amount of wastewater collected, treated, and discharged was 198.4 million gallons and the average daily effluent flow was 5.298 million gallons.
