 A groundbreaking ceremony announcing the start of construction on the much-awaited Elam Park Phase I will be held Monday, May 1, at 2900 W. Florence St., behind Aspen Creek Elementary at 2 p.m.
Elam Park is a reimagined 40-plus acre park in the southwest corner of the city. Project elements include:
· An adaptive playground
· A restroom facility
· A feature fence
· A tree grove food truck court
· An entry drive with parking
Mayor Debra Wimpee says this project speaks directly to children with disabilities and their families that they are welcome in this community.
“Elam Park will be a generational park for our community, and with its adaptive playground, it will be inclusive for the entire city!” Mayor Debra Wimpee said.
Parks and Recreation Director Matt Hendren is enthusiastic about bringing a park of this magnitude to the community. This project is the first of its kind in Broken Arrow and for the Department of Broken Arrow Parks and Recreation.
“The overarching theme of Elam Park is inclusivity,” Hendren said. “The inclusive playground included as part of Phase I provides a unique opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to be able to play together.”
The City Council awarded Voy Construction a $4.3 million contract on March 21. Construction is expected to take 330 days.
