Broken Arrow City Councilors will nominate and vote for the positions of Mayor and Vice Mayor following a swearing-in ceremony at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m., at City Hall, 220 S. First Street.
Broken Arrow residents voted to re-elect Christi Gillespie (Ward 3) and Johnnie Parks (At Large) and elected first-time candidate Joe Franco (Ward 4) to the City Council. Franco defeated Scott Eudey, who has served on the City Council since 2015.
Gillespie, Parks, and Franco will officially begin their terms at noon on Monday, April 17, with a public swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday night. Other Councilors not up for re-election this year include Debra Wimpee (Ward 1) and Lisa Ford (Ward 2). Wimpee has served as Mayor and Gillespie as Vice Mayor since 2021.
The City of Broken Arrow operates under a Council-Manager form of government. Comprised of four wards, Broken Arrow citizens are represented by one unpaid elected official from each of those wards and an At Large member on the City Council.
Council members must live within the ward in which they are elected to represent, and all registered voters in the city are eligible to vote on each Ward seat. Each Councilor is eligible to serve four years, with elections held every two years. Elections are staggered with Wards 1 and 2, then two years later, Wards 3, 4, and the At Large seats up for election.
The City Council elects a mayor and a vice mayor from among its members. To learn more about the City of Broken Arrow’s form of government and operations, please visit the city website..
