It's Arbor Week in Broken Arrow— a time to recognize the benefits trees provide residents and future generations!
Broken Arrow is a 23-year Tree City USA member and has achieved National Certification from the Arbor Day Foundation and recognition from the Oklahoma Forestry Service and the Oklahoma Community Forest Council.
Residents who want to leave a legacy beyond Arbor Week can participate in the City's Commemorative Tree Program. It's a way for family, friends, businesses, churches, and civic organizations to donate trees for planting in one of the City's 41 parks covering 800 acres of public land.
Donors may request the park and type of tree, such as shade, flowering, or evergreen. The kind of tree/shrub selected will be from a list of Oklahoma hardy species, including Lacebark Elm, Redbud, Crepe Myrtle, Oregon or Bosnian Pine, Chinese Pistache, Shumard Oak, Water Oak, Bald Cypress, American Holly, Trident Maple, and Shantung Maple.
The donor will receive their tree location information, and a donor's plaque will be placed next to the tree. A commemorative tree donation is $225, with additional trees ordered at the same time available for $200 each. The City's Parks Department will plant and maintain the tree for three years.
The City will plant Commemorative Trees ordered between Jan. 1 and June 30 in the fall and those ordered between July 1 and Dec. 31 in the spring. For more information, go to Commemorative Tree Program.
