A special election will be held on Tuesday, February 14, for Broken Arrow residents to consider the renewal of the PSO franchise agreement with the city.
The renewal is a 25-year agreement, bound by law, that allows PSO to continue to access our public streets and alleys to maintain and improve the electric grid that powers our homes, businesses, schools, and more. When there are power outages, this access is essential to quickly and efficiently restore power.
PSO will continue to collect a 2 percent franchise fee and a new 1 percent Economic Development fee that will be sent to the City each month in full for the length of the franchise. This new 1 percent Economic Development fee can be used by the City for maintenance and repair of the City rights of way, public health and safety improvements, aesthetic purposes, and other economic development opportunities.
Mayor Debra Wimpee and City Manager Michael Spurgeon created a short video about the franchise agreement renewal. Please click the following graphic to watch the video.
For more information about the franchise agreement renewal, PSO created an informative website about the benefits of an agreement, the company’s impact on the community, a comment form to ask questions, and much more.
Polls in Tulsa and Wagoner counties will be open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.
The current 25-year franchise agreement expires in May.
