A new widening project on New Orleans Street (101st St.) from 37th St. (209th E. Ave.) to 41st St. (215th E. Ave.) is set to begin Monday, Sept. 19.
Upcoming roadway improvements include widening the existing two-lane road to four-lanes, from 37th Street to the Events Park main entrance. There will be a through lane in each direction with a dedicated left turn lane and a westbound dedicated right turn lane on the north side.
From the Events Park main entrance to 41st Street, there will be three lanes, including a through lane in each direction with a dedicated left turn lane.
Other improvements include adding a pedestrian signal, a crosswalk, and ADA ramp upgrades at the 37th Street signal. Additional plan benefits include curbs and gutters, a sidewalk on the south side of the street and a 10-foot-wide walking trail on the north side and an enclosed storm sewer.
During construction, two 10-foot-wide lanes will be open, and speeds will be reduced to 17 mph.
Flaggers will be on-site in the area to help direct traffic during school drop off and pickup times, so use caution as you travel through there during construction.
Cherokee Pride Construction, Inc. will complete this project in two phases. Phase 1 is expected to be completed by the end of the year, and Phase 2 should begin in January and finish in March. The project is paid for with funds from the 2018 GO Bond at a cost of $2,270,688.
